I was listening to The Current this morning, and Jill Riley announced that their regular morning DJ is taking a month off to be with a new baby and will be replaced by our own St. Paul Dandy. As she said, “We needed someone with a star-studded resume.”

So, now even the hinterlanders can listen to Mr. Munson in the wee-hours of the morning.

I do have to add that when she named his band affiliations, she mentioned his most recent as The New Standards and didn’t bring up The Twilight Hours. So John, I think you need to talk up the TTH each morning, on the hour.

I heard that yesterday, too.  Very excited to hear how John takes to the position over a period of time.

Now, will I have to record the Morning Show every morning?

From The Current:

John Munson in the hot seat

Speaking of Jill Riley, she’ll soon be joined by The New Standards’ John Munson while co-host Steve Seel is out on family leave. “I love nothing more than making a rock ‘n’ roll guy wake up before dawn,” Riley said. “It will turn Munson’s world upside down, but I know his personality and love for music will be a fun addition to show. I hope he can stay sharp at 6 a.m.” Munson starts getting up early next week.

He’s on the air from 7am-11am your time, Kara.  No way to listen to it at work?  It’s streaming on their website…

It’s been great to hear John on the radio.  I’ve always enjoyed his on stage “chatter” and this gives us an opportunity to hear more!  Plus I am loving his “random vinyl” picks/tidbits about them, (and John’s unique contributions with) “women who rule” songs and his interviews with people/hearing the stories about the songs that have made an impact on them and of course - the actual songs!  Broadening my musical horizons and reaquainting me with songs of my past….  And his enthusiasim/support of Gopher sport teams (women and men)is nice to hear in a town that usually focuses on the pro teams…  Go Gophers!

We are not permitted to stream music, since we had recently been on federal servers….although now that we are on our own server, we are still a governmental agency working with large databases and are not permitted still to stream….

I feel like I am catching up with technology in general now that I have an iphone and laptop and a wireless receiver that I can bluetooth my itunes into….last night I listened to my tripshakespeare radio station….pretty fantastic when applehead man comes out to play! I’m off every other monday…I will try to remember to tune in and email a request!

I am listening to the morning show now, and it’s really fun to hear John’s commentary….I liked his concern for bulbs popping so early during this atypical winter weather….

Thanks for checking in on the site, John.  You must be tired with all you’ve been up to.  Can you drop any hints of when and if you might have Matt on the show to discuss his influential song pick???  I’d hate to miss it.

This has crossed my mind, as well.  Will Matt be part of the show and, if so, what did it take to convince him to take to the airwaves?

Also eagerly awaiting the answer to Jane’s question. I’ve been listening to the stream when I am in the office in the mornings. I feel like I know more of the players in the MN music scene than in my own backyard. Perhaps I too will someday live like Kara and get the Twin Cities for the immersion.

I NEVER “call in to win” tickets for radio promo’s as I know it is nearly impossible to win….  BUT I heard Mr. Munson announce a ticket giveaway today so I thought why not/maybe I’ll win and get to chat with him!  Well guess what?!  I WON BUT Mr. Munson did not select the winner - it was his co-host Ms. Reilly who is charming but I was hoping to chat with Mr. Munson!  Maybe you have to be a permanent employee of The Current to select winners!!  I was happy to win the tickets but it would have been nice to be able to tell Mr. Munson “live” how much I’ve been enjoying his time at The Current…!!!
