Recording of the “pre-show” show at the 89.3 current radio station booth. Three songs, very good audio. I would call this “the gentle set”.

Rain
Winter Blue
Maybe

Thanks for the link, Spike!  Great to hear crisp recordings of the new tunes.

I am new to this forum, but not the band ( First Trip show-sept. 3 1989, Riverfest, st paul!)...I’m glad to hear someone taped the Saturday show, even if not perfect…I made a recording of the Sunday shows, and am pretty happy with the results…I have been listening to the CD’s in my car quite a lot, and have been marveling at how great the band sounds, and at how much I love some of the renditions of the songs…After the first four song opening salvo, (dreams-yes-my return-forgot me now) I was SO psyched…The band sounded very good, great at times, and the crowd around me was quiet, thankfully.  It all went pretty well, and the effort was WELL worth it…( anyone who has done a lot of taping will tell you it is definitely a trade-off, a lot of hassle and effort, but usually well worth it if you do it well!)  When I heard the announcement of them playing some State Fair gigs, I vowed at that time to go and record AT LEAST one… It would have tormented me terribly to sit there and NOT tape, it would seriously come close to ruining it for me…

I am frequently haunted by regrets of shows I attended and did NOT tape for some dumb reason…

I will put up a set list for Sunday, I am still finalizing it , sorta, using that 8/27 list-review as a guide to some of the newer songs I was unclear on the titles of…

FYI I am happy to share it, I will be posting it on Dimeadozen, if people know what that is…

Ah, there you are Mrs B!  Had not seen you logged in on Dime for a while… I am putting the 8-28 twilight hours up soon, I am quite pleased with my recording overall…I have been super busy and also fighting with my computer, which is obviously cursed. I am , again, going to wipe the whole main drive, and un-install my soundcard, and lots of other stuff, and start clean AGAIN… F’in thing.  Anyhoo, also been finalizing other good stuff to put up in the meantime… Has anyone here heard the 12-16-93 Matt and Planetmaker show, from Iowa..?  I was not at it, sadly, but I got a ?2nd gen. cassette from a good pal…It is, surely, one of my very favorite recordings of ANYONE at any time.
It is so amazing, even all the band/crowd banter is priceless. I think Matt should have simply released it as a live album…( He still can!...Matt???) Amazing, definitive versions of some of the material to later come out on BW&B…Some are, I feel, better than the studio releases.  The long musical intro to “Blue Electra”, the best version of “Minnetonka Lady” ever(!) IMHO, a version of “Landing” quite different than the CD version,  and one of my fave Matt songs “Barmaid” (TTH should play this song!!)...the lovely version of “Hello Caller” that begins with the chorus rather than the verse; and the opening “Call Me Up” is just stunning, too. This is the version I think of in my troubled head, the new one TTH does is soooo different…Not even the same song, really…
PlanetMaker sonds great, of course, and is rocking out, hard.  As I said the crowd-Matt banter is hilarious, you will have to hear it…
So then… I’m glad to see you’ve not simply disappeared!  Watch for the 2011.08.28 fair show, I will attempt to post it in the next day or two, time and my schedule permitting… (Also going to put up some SWEET SWEET SBD Wilco shows from 1995, and my (very nice) recording of Garbage in 1998…! )  - peace, MBP

Wow, this show is super interesting to me.  First off, I can’t believe I wasn’t at this show.  I lived there then, and I was pretty religious about seeing the “important” shows.  This show surely would’ve qualified.  I must’ve been out of town.  I did see a couple of MW shows from this era, once in Chicago and once in Lincoln.  Both were pretty disappointing.  They seemed unfocused and poorly rehearsed—kind of like they were trying to go for the spontaneous magic of a Trip show but forgoing any serious groundwork to get to that point.  I recall thinking at the Chicago show that they weren’t really listening to each other.  This Iowa City show is a revelation, because they sound pretty good.  Thanks a bunch.  I’m particularly happy to get a good version of the old version of Call Me Up.  I still like that old arrangement and rhythmic feel a lot.

Doc, that 1993 show was from Iowa? Ames? If so, I was there!

My family is doing an outing without me, so I am spending the evening listening to stuff on the secret site. I was going to say that you can’t even imagine how happy it makes me, but then I remembered: of course you can!
