Waiting backstage at the Waiting Room

Posted by Matt
We’re all gathered backstage in Omaha. The Waiting Room. Steve’s sleeping in a comfy chair. John and Jacques are chitter chattering about the show we played in Brooklyn when the club charged us money for playing too long. Jeez.
Somewhere between our last rehearsal and this afternoon, the electric piano that Dave has been playing must have taken a nasty spill. It’s a shining web of metal on the inside. A delicate, complicated machine, and some of the little pickups were just broken right off. Dave is such a cool customer, he went out and bought some Krazee Glue and has set about fixing it up.
I’m here to say that Eric from the forum looks nothing like his little picture. The haughty pride is there, but not the hat. Or the face. Eric is in fact quite a handsome gentleman. And he seems to be setting up his tripod for some ungodly YouTubery. See you in pixilated hell, Eric!
So nice to be out in public with the band. Haven’t sung my way down 35W for many a year. I used to get so nervous. Now I’m just excited to go and play. Play as in play like a child. Such a privilege to be out in the world with this band.

Bless you TTH and bless you Eric! I’m looking forward to seeing whatever YouTubery slips out from Omaha.
Matt, reading this little, pre-show blurb makes me wonder if you’re stepping into a side contest with Jake for best road diary.
I’m stoked to see the pleasure you find in singing to us all again. We love having you back; rocking us into submission!
Have a fantastic show!

It’s great to have a MacGyver on hand when you are travelling…as well as almost anytime!!! Does Dave have a new nickname?
Hooray for Eric and his youtubery foolery…that’s quite bold to set up a tri-pod…you’re my hero!

Thanks for this peek behind the curtain, love your description of the personality of the band, and your wizened awareness of the joy of the moment.

Safe travels to Lawrence for more child’s play. I’m very much looking forward to this show!

You know… it’s funny. I retain fluids much more during the summer months (ironically when that photo was taken). So it’s no wonder I caught you off guard.
I’ll wear the hat next time.
Eric
