Couple of Points to Clarify

Several factual errors in the story above: the boat actually belongs to Dave. Fun fact about the boat: Dave owns it by some obscure law of marine salvage, as he basically rescued it from a sad trip over The Saint Anthony Falls when it came floating by one day. Apparently this is what happens when people decide they can no longer afford a boat.
The decor, and it’s temporary nature, are an example of Dave (and Phil’s) cool art-based existence on the river. They created an installation called, “The SS Infinite Regress” as part of an event in the Minneapolis art scene known as Art a Whirl. The installation involved the participants/viewers donning haz-mat suits and going into the mirrored shiny space that Dave and Phil created especially for the occasion. People had fun in there… and got freaked out.
The reason the installation was temporary is because Dave and his art project, Creative Electric, had another show to do in the houseboat. I went to this one and it was a trip also, involving lit ceramic figurines floating in the river. Dave is cool. No mistake there.
And Oh god. Enough about “the liner notes” already! Sheesh. You’d think I’d taken your lunch money…
